Strand #4: What Students need to know and do
Essential Learning Objectives (ELOs) are posted in all classrooms throughout Cameron Veterans Middle School. This is important because lessons with clear learning targets and clear success criteria that are observable and measurable by the students and teachers create student engagement. ELOs that employ techniques/strategies/practices that require students to think critically, produce creatively, and persevere in problem solving create learners who are ready for the 21st century.
Administrators and teachers consistently monitor and observe progress on ELOs and provide formal opportunities for student input on levels of engagement with the lesson, using observational notes and conversations with students.
For the 2016-2017 school year, the Cameron School District will implement the new Missouri Learning Standards approved by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in March 2016. Changes in curriculum revisions, assessment alignments, cross-walks and best-practice instructional strategies continue to be an ongoing focus for professional development.
