Strand #3: How Effective Teams Work
Grade level teams at Cameron Veterans Middle School operate with established norms, agendas, membership roles, and team notes. Each daily meeting has a designated focus for grade level discussion during team planning time. In the 2016-2017 school year, all teams will meet on Mondays with administration and the counselor. Discussions will be centered on student concerns and the book study, The Leader In Me by Stephen Covey. Our "end in mind" for this study is to become a Leader In Me Lighthouse School. On Wednesdays, all teams will meet with the principal to discuss student data and effective grading practices through the study of Formative Assessment and Standards-Based Grading by Robert Marzano. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays teams will discuss previously determined topics focused on student growth data, teaching strategies, reflections on best practice, RtI, and positive/negative parent contact.
In addition, content teams meet on a monthly basis. These discussions are also data driven by MAP, Acuity, and formative and summative Standards-Referenced assessments. Weekly meetings occur with administrators and counselor to discuss student concerns.
Other active and effective teams at CVMS are:
As a supplement to formative and summative unit assessments, CVMS embeds the Acuity assessment program as monitor individual student growth and as benchmark predictive data for MAP testing. As with the formative and summative unit assessments, data collected from the Acuity program allows us to carefully monitor every student's level of proficiency on specific learning targets aligned to state standards. Unit assessments and Acuity results help teachers target instruction for specific proficiency groups, providing intervention/enrichment on a daily basis.
