Administrative Leadership
The year of 2015-2016 was a year of exciting changes for Cameron Veterans Middle School. Not only was a new building opened for grades 6-8, there was also a complete change in administration. CVMS principal and assistant principal valued and honored many inherited traditions. They focused on creating a culture where communication is important and that staff, students, and stakeholders are valued. Weekly emails to staff and parents with updates helped facilitate this process. The Leadership Team collaborated with the faculty to create and approve the CVMS Vision "CVMS will value and empower all by exemplifying learning, achievement, innovation, and leadership in a global community." Both administrators embraced the established Mission Learning for life...every student, every teacher, every day.
During the 2015-2016 school year, teachers completed a weekly book study using The Artisan Teacher: A Field Guide to Skillful Teaching by Mike Rutherford. This book was chosen to create an open and common communication between the new administrators and teachers regarding teaching strategies. These meetings are embedded into the regular school day and are an example of the ongoing professional development at CVMS. For the 2016-2017 school year, teachers continue to hone leadership and communication skills through the study of The Leader In Me by Stephen Covey and Formative Assessment and Standards-Referenced Grading by Robert Marzano.
